1,500 BC - Beer as Medicine.

February 2, 2026

In ancient Egypt, beer was no longer perceived just as food or an everyday beverage. It became a part of medicine—a curative remedy that doctors and priests used purposefully.

Egyptians mixed beer with medicinal herbs, honey, and various spices. The drink produced by the fermentation process absorbed these ingredients well, making them more easily digestible for the body.

Beer was used to alleviate pain, fight infections, and combat physical weakness. It was considered a safe carrier for medicinal substances and often worked more effectively than simple infusions dissolved in plain water.
